Testing and Assessment

Do you have the best talent deployed in the right places?  Will they work together and function under pressure in crucial situations that will determine the success of your organization?  Will they be able to concentrate under pressure?  Will they avoid becoming distracted by irrelevant information? Can they control their doubts and fears?  Will they be overloaded or overwhelmed by multiple issues and tasks?

Assessment is the life blood of any talent and performance management process.  Whether attaining a baseline, or determining future potential or current readiness in an individual, team or organization, it is vitally important to evaluate accurately.  PerformanceVertical Consulting is committed to using the best and latest tools that are available.  The organizational development industry has a wide variety of assessment tools that we can use depending on the needs of the organization and the situation at hand.  Below are some of the more prevalent tools that we use in our consulting work.

  • The Attentional & Interpersonal Style Inventory (TAIS)

TAIS was developed by Bob Nideffer, Ph.D., to measure concentration skills that are critical determinants of performance.  It has been used globally as a training and consulting tool for screening, selection, team building, and performance enhancement.

TAIS is a 144 item self assessment questionnaire that takes approximately 40 minutes to complete.  The TAIS measures constructs crucial to effective performance.  It has been used as an aid for selection, development, and training in business, sports, and the military.  The TAIS results will emphasize how one is likely to react under stressful conditions and will determine how pressures affects one's ability to concentrate, stay motivated, communicate effectively, and make decisions. TAIS also provides information about conditions like to lead to success or failure and about developing mental and interpersonal skills.

The TAIS measures twenty different, performance relevant concentration skills and behavioral attributes.  The characteristics TAIS measures are the building blocks of Leadership, Emotional Control, and Performance Under Pressure.  These measures are used to create reports for individuals in particular roles, specific teams or groups of individuals for specific performance situations.  These reports can include performance reports comparing individual test results to a wide variety of comparison group norms that have been carefully compiled and validated.

TAIS can be used as a valuable scouting report that provides early indications of those situations in which individuals will or will not perform well.   It is particularly valuable in assisting decisions about talent by identifying the ability to focus and concentrate on task relevant cues.
